Book Examines Intercountry Adoptions
Intercountry Adoption from China, written by COE professor Jay Rojewski and his wife, Jacy, is a detailed look at the post-adoptive views, actions and experiences of a national sample of families with children from China toward acknowledging their adopted child's Chinese cultural heritage and the issues they face together as a multicultural family.

Rojewski, an associate professor in the department of occupational studies and Jacy, a special education teacher in Madison, Ga., have adopted two daughters from China.

In addition to detailing issues affecting intercountry adoptees and their families, the authors supplement parents' beliefs and experiences on these issues with comprehensive review of available literature. The book also focuses on common experiences and reactions of adoptive families who were, for the most part, firmly ensconced in the cultural mainstream but now find themselves viewed differently by society. These parents finds that issues of culture, race, and ethnicity have become an important part of their daily lives.

Rojewski joined the UGA faculty in Fall 1991. Prior to this he spent one year at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign directing a federal personnel preparation grant for employees involved in transition from school to work
programs for special populations.  Rojewski received his Ph.D. from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in Spring 1990.

Rojewski  has authored or co-authored a number of publications over the past several years including 6 book chapters, 60+ refereed scholarly articles, and has presented over 60 national and international scholarly papers.  He has received four outstanding research awards for past publications and was the1993 AVERA Outstanding Beginning Scholar and1994 University Council for Vocational Education's Young Scholar in recognition of his research efforts.  He has received over
$700,000 in grant funds over the past 10 years.

Rojewski's research focuses primarily on the career behavior of adolescents with special needs, particularly youth with learning disabilities, economic disadvantage, or from culturally diverse backgrounds.  Issues of career development are interpreted within adolescents'  with special needs transition from school to work and adult life.  Recent investigations have
examined career decision-making patterns, career maturity, career indecision, and career aspirations of these select special groups.

Rojewski is currently the Editor for the Journal of Vocational Education Research, past editor of The Journal of Career Development.  He hasserved as Region II Vice-President and Secretary for the National Association for Vocational Education Special Needs Personnel (NAVESNP).  Rojewski was selected as  a University of Georgia Lilly Teaching Fellow
for the 1993-94 academic year, and has also been recognized by the UGA chapter of Kappa Delta Epsilon (student nomination) for excellence in teaching (1994), as outstanding faculty member in the UGA College of Education (1996), and is a past recipient of the Richard B. Russell Outstanding Undergraduate Teaching Award (1997).
