Fall 2002 COE International Seminars
Several College of Education faculty members will reflect on their work and the work of their students around the world in such places as the Philippines, Kenya, Mexico and New Zealand in series of one-hour seminars held each month this semester in the Dean's Conference Room, G23 Aderhold.

Programs and Projects in Kenya
Speakers: Rose Chepyator-Thomson, Physical Education & Sport Studies
                  Norm Thomson, Science Education
Date: Tuesday, October 15
Time: 3 p.m.
Chepyator-Thomson and Thomson will discuss the varied COE programs and projects taking place in Kenya.  The pair have led a Study Abroad Program to Kenya for the last three years that has gathered campus-wide  respect and attracts students from numerous fields of study.
 

Making Links Across Borders and Within Georgia:
(A Description of UGA Agreements in Veracruz, Mexico and the Development of the UGA Center for Hispanic
Educational Advancement)
Speakers: James McLaughlin, Elementary Education
                  Michael Padilla, Associate Dean for Educator Partnerships
                  Paul Matthews, Language Education
Date: Wednesday, November 13
Time: 2 (approximately 1 1/2 hours)
McLaughlin, Padilla and Matthews will discuss the recent UGA initiatives with both the University of Veracruz and the State Department of Education in Mexico, as well as, the recent grant award of $3.5 million from The Goizueta Foundation to develop the Center for Hispanic Educational Advancement.  A Q & A session will follow the seminar.

Educating Internationally:  Adventures in New Zealand
Speakers: Michael Tarrant, joint appoint in Recreation & Leisure Studies and Forestry
                  Louie Cleveland, Non-Traditional Graduate Student
Date: Tuesday, November 19
Time: 2:30 p.m.
Tarrant will discuss the upcoming offerings for the 2003 Study Abroad in New Zealand Program. Tarrant and Cleveland will discuss opportunities available to students and Cleveland will give a unique perspective of his experiences in New Zealand as a non-traditional student.  He is working on his Ed.D. at UGA.
