A College of Education professor was appointed to the Georgia State Board of Examiners of Psychologists in January 2002. Linda Campbell, an associate professor of counseling psychology, joins the six-member board selected by the governor to provide consumer protection, public health and welfare through regulation of the profession. The board consists of five psychologists and one consumer member. The board processes licensure applications and receives, investigates and adjudicates complaints issued against licensed psychologists. There are currently 1,709 licensed psychologists in the state. Campbell, who is also president of the Georgia Psychological Association, is director of the counseling and human development department's Center for Counseling and Personal Evaluation which provides services for about 70 clients a week including adults, families, couples, adolescents and children. The center also offers consultative services to community personnel including school counselors, principals, teachers, DFACS case workers, the juvenile court system and parole officers. These services include assessment and counseling for school placement, behavioral problems, diagnosis of learning problems, substance abuse, domestic violence and rehabilitative potential.
