TIME IN CURRENT POSITION: Three months. JOB DESCRIPTION: “I have only been in this position since Nov.
1, and I really haven’t begun to do everything that I will be doing.
A TYPICAL DAY AT WORK: “Since I have only been in this position for three months and have only been working with the college’s curriculum, I really do not know what a typical day will be. But, I do know that in my 33 years at UGA, no matter how hard you to try to plan a day’s work, something always comes up to interrupt your plans. I just try to think about what absolutely needs to be done that day, get it done, and then work on what is left.” THE MOST CHALLENGING PART OF MY JOB: “Right now it is learning everything new. Situations come up every day that I haven’t handled, and that is what is challenging, working out what is to be done and how.” THE MOST REWARDING PART OF MY JOB: “Seeing a task through to its completion is rewarding for me. Working through the problems of a task and knowing I have done my best is rewarding.” OTHER WORK EXPERIENCE: “I worked for Southern Bell before I worked at UGA.” OTHER UGA EXPERIENCES: “I began working in the UGA library in 1967 and worked for a year. I thought I wanted to stay at home so I quit. But I came back in 1969 and worked in card maintenance for the card catalogue. In 1972 I applied for a position in the College of Education in graduate studies, and I worked there until it was disbanded and the responsibility given to each individual department. Then I filled in where I was needed until we got a new administration. Then I worked for the associate dean for services for five years. In 1987, I began working for the bureau of educational services and two years later I returned to the associate dean for services office. In 1996, I began working in the college’s outreach office and worked there until Nov. 1, 2001.” IF I WAS NOT DOING THIS JOB, I WOULD MOST LIKE TO: “I have always wanted to work as a dispatcher at the police department. My daddy was a policeman, and law enforcement has always intrigued me.” OFF-THE-JOB INTERESTS: “I have grandchildren who I enjoy a lot. I also like to go to flea markets and read.” FAVORITE MUSIC: “I like Southern gospel and rock-and-roll oldies.” A BOOK I WOULD RECOMMEND TO OTHERS: “I like to read inspirational fiction, and I like reading about other cultures. I read a very interesting series of books about the Amish community by Beverly Lewis that I really enjoyed.” THE PERSON I MOST ADMIRE: “I admire anyone who can live by the
Golden Rule. It’s not an easy thing to do but we should all want to do
unto others as we would want them to do unto us.
THE ISSUE THAT CONCERNS ME MOST ABOUT TODAY’S WORLD: “People who have no concern or care for other people.” --Jocelyn Newman
