Counseling Faculty Receive National, Regional Honors

Several faculty members in the College of Education's department of counseling and human development services have received national, regional and local prestigious awards over the past few months.

Linda Campbell received the Distinguished Psychologist Award from the American Psychological Association (APA)'s Division 29.

Campbell has served the profession of psychology in a number of leadership roles both at the state and national levels. She has served as editor of the division's newsletter, Psychotherapy Bulletin, since 1994. She also represents Georgia on the APA's Council of Representative. In addition, she was recipient of the APA's 1998 Karl Heiser Award recognizing her extensive legislative work in the advocacy of psychology.

Campbell is director of the department's Center for Counseling and Personal Evaluation which provides services for about 70 clients a week including adults, families, couples, adolescents and children. Group services are provided in collaboration with other UGA departments.

The center also offers consultative services to community personnel including school counselors, principals, teachers, DFACS case workers, the juvenile court system and parole officers. These services include assessment and counseling for school placement, behavioral problems, diagnosis of learning problems, substance abuse, domestic violence and rehabilitative potential.

Andy Horne received the Outstanding Research of the Year Award from the APA's Division 51. He also received The Professional Advancement Award from the Association of Specialists in Group Work. Further, he was honored by The European Branch of the American Counseling Association as the organization's Distinguished Member.
 
 

Diane Cooper, the coordinator of the College Student Affairs Association program, has also received three awards. She was honored by the American College Personnel Association with the Annuit Coeptis Award for Professional Scholarship. She also received the Melvene Draheim Hardee Award from the Southern Association for College Students Affairs. In addition, she received the Parker D. Young Judicial Affairs Leadership Award.
 
 
 

Deryl Bailey received a special recognition as Group Worker of the Year by the Association for Specialists in Group Work. Brian Glaser, the director of training for the Counseling Psychology Program, was recognized at a recent banquet as the year's Outstanding Teacher by students in that program.
