Kennebrew Selected AAHE Future Leader

Sigrid Kennebrew, a doctoral candidate in counseling psychology at the University of Georgia College of Education, has been selected as one of seven K. Patricia Cross Future Leaders by the American Association of Higher Education (AAHE) for 2001.

Winners are selected for demonstrated leadership ability, particularly in the development of leaders, scholars, and citizens.

Kennebrew participates in Preparing Future Faculty (PFF), a national program that provides doctoral students with opportunities to observe and experience faculty responsibilities at academic institutions with varying missions, diverse student bodies, and different expectations for faculty. She currently teaches a graduate-level course in the Community Counseling Program at North Georgia College and State University.

Kennebrew says her experiences in PFF have provided her both the breadth and depth to increase her understanding of the teaching, research and service roles that will be part of her work as an academic and future leader in education.

Kennebrew is also involved in C.L.A.S.S., Continuing the Legacy of African American Student Success, a mentoring program designed to enhance academic performance and student retention. In addition, she does volunteer work with Athens Area Homeless Shelter, where she provides counseling services.
