Thomas P. Hebert, an assistant professor in educational psychology at the UGA College of Education, has received the prestigious Early Scholar Award from the National Association for Gifted Children (NAGC).
The award is given annually for cumulative outstanding research contributions to the profession from a scholar in the field less than 10 years since receiving a terminal degree.
Hebert's research has examined social and emotional issues facing gifted students, underachievement in high-ability students, identity development in gifted males, and counseling needs of culturally diverse gifted males.
The NAGC consists of more than 8,000 members including educators, school teachers, administrators, counselors and parents. The NAGC serves as a public advocate concerning the needs of gifted students and promotes research on the nature and education of gifted children at all ages and educational levels.
Hebert teaches graduate classes in gifted and creative education, as well as qualitative research methods.
Hebert joined the UGA faculty in 1997 from the University of Alabama.
He received his Ph.D. from the University of Connecticut. He earned his
master's in gifted education from the University of Connecticut and his
bachelor's in history from the University of Maine.
