| Brassie Receives National Award
The award recognizes individuals who make outstanding contributions and provide leadership in the field of sport management. The award was presented March 30 at the NASPE's Hall of Fame Banquet in Cincinnati, OH., where the National Physical Education Teachers of the Year for elementary, middle school and secondary school as well as the Athletic Director of the Year awards were announced. National Football League Hall of Famer Anthony Munoz of the Cincinnati Bengals was inducted into the NASPE Hall of Fame. Brassie has served as president of the NASPE, received four NASPE Distinguished Achievement awards and the Honor Award from the American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (AAHPERD). He has been very active with graduate accreditation review boards and has served as a curriculum and program consultant for 22 colleges and universities. Brassie serves as coordinator of Special Olympics Summer Area Games and is on the Atlanta Sports Council. He is a member of the U.S. Collegiate Sports Council and the International Commission for the Study of University Sport. He also served as United States Olympic Committee delegate to the International Olympic Committee Academy in Olympia, Greece. Brassie, an associate professor, has been a member of UGA's faculty for more than 20 years ago, coming from Indiana State University where he was chair of the physical education department. He has teaching experience in the public schools and served as coach and athletic director at Concordia University in Illinois. He received his Ph.D. and master's in physical education from the University of Iowa. He received his bachelor's degree from Concordia University.
