College of Education graduate Cecil Reynolds, a professor of educational psychology at Texas A&M University, is the 1998 recipient of the American Board of Professional Neuropsychology Award.
The award is presented for scientific contributions and service to the field of neuropsychology. Reynolds is the only person to receive the award for both science and service.
At 46, he is also the youngest recipient of the award.
The American Board of Professional Neuropsychology gives the award to an individual for outstanding lifetime contributions to the field of neuropsychology in the areas of service to the profession and contributions to the scientific basis of clinical practice.
Reynolds obtained his doctorate in educational psychology, his Ed.S. in school psychology and his masters in psychometrics from the University of Georgia. He received his bachelor's degree in psychology at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington, N.C.
He came to Texas A&M as an associate professor in 1981. He became
a full professor in 1985, a professor of neuroscience in 1993 and a distinguished
research scholar in 1995. He is a certified and licensed psychologist and
is frequently used as an expert witness in clinical neuropsychology, psychology,
education, tests and measurement, and child mental health in local, state
and federal district courts. He has been an oral examiner for the Texas
State Board of Examiners of Psychologists since 1987, the first year of
oral exams in Texas.
