Lead:  Recently, Provost Karen Holbrook announced that the University of Georgia would begin a search for a person to fill the position of associate provost for minority affairs.  According to Holbrook, the purpose of the position is to address issues of recruitment and retention of ethnic minorities and diversity at UGA.  While I believe that this is a move in the right direction and could be one of the most proactive steps pertaining to equity and diversity that the university has taken in more than 200 years of existence, I disagree wholeheartedly with the title and rank of the position.
