CollectionThe collection's primary focus is on materials for the College of Education's undergraduate programs, particularly those related to teacher training and preparation. Materials support Educational Field Experiences in the College of Education, the methods and practicum courses in the education curriculum, and children's and young adult's literature courses. Our books and periodicals can be located in the GIL online catalog. Contents:
Juvenile and Young Adult LiteratureFiction and nonfiction books appropriate for the preschool child through young adult are located in this collection. All are fully cataloged. ReferenceA core collection of the newest editions of reference sources which are related to other materials in the collection are included in the CML. For example, the collection includes children's literature indexes and bibliographies, encyclopedias, directories, and review sources of audiovisual media, etc. TextbooksThe curriculum collection contains print resources appropriate for pre-school through secondary education. Much of this collection is made up of textbooks adopted by the Georgia Board of Education and is kept current with recent state adoptions. Supplementary Teaching MaterialsThis collection supports other materials found in the CML Collection and also covers topics which lack appropriate subject designations. Examples include books on field trips, critical and creative thinking texts, storytelling books, and general knowledge material. Preschool through twelfth-grade curriculum guides from the national, state, regional, and local levels are selectively collected in notebooks. In addition, the Kraus Curriculum Develpment Library is updated annually and available on microfiche. Curriculum GuidesPreschool through twelfth-grade curriculum guides from the national, state, regional and local levels are selectively collected in paper. In addition, the Kraus Curriculum Development Library, curriculum guides on microfiche purchased annually, is available in the CML. MediaA variety of nonprint materials for K-12 have been purchased for instructional purposes. Examples include transparencies, pictures, videos, games and CD-ROMs. Equipment for viewing media is available in the Office of Information Technology (OIT) , Room 232 in Aderhold Hall. Current PeriodicalsThe CML holds over 66 periodical subscriptions. A great number of these titles are written for children and cover a broad area of subjects. Others are professional in scope, featuring reviews of juvenile literature and creative teaching methods. Most journals are retained for five years; a few are bound and shelved at the Main Library. TestsThe test collection consists of Tests in Microfiche, which are unpublished tests often cited in professional literature, and the standardized test kits used by the Educational Psychology Department faculty and students. Arrangements can be made for copying the microfiche tests at the Main Library's Copy Center. Test kits may be checked out for three days by pre-approved users. Vertical FileCatalogs, information brochures and samples of free materials are collected for the Vertical File. |
