Libraries News

  • Got New People? Let your friendly librarians introduce your new people, faculty, staff or students, to all the Libraries have to offer. Nadine Cohen & Carla Wilson Buss, while not able to leap tall buildings, will still be there when needed. We are also available to come to your first department meeting or graduate student orientation to say hello and remind people that we’re here to help. We can do that in just 10 minutes, if you want to squeeze us in. Just let us know.

  • Google Scholar Metrics: Nadine helpfully sent this note earlier, but if you missed it, the big Google Scholar news is that the new metrics for journals in Google Scholar have been released. Read more about this here.

  • 2013 BFSO Diversity Scholarship Applications: The Black Faculty & Staff Organization is offering a scholarship for students in financial need. The deadline is August 26th. More information, including the application form, is available here.

  • Graduating Students & the Libraries: If you or your students are graduating this semester, we wish you well. We do not wish for you to leave without taking a look at your library account, however. Please take a look at the graduation checklist before you walk across the stage. And congratulations!

  • FREE Online Speech Therapy Webinar: eSchool Media announces a free webinar on Speech Therapy, scheduled for August 1st @ 1:00pm. Even if you can’t make that time, you can still register and then have access to the archive.

  • CML Student Worker Featured on Front Page: Our very own Laura Toulme is featured in a Banner-Herald front-page article on UGA’s use of coal. We’re proud of her & our long list of our student workers who are environmental activists, including Sara Black , a 2013 Udall Scholar, and alumnae Kelsea Norris & Cristina Duque.

  • August 1st is… William Clark’s birthday. Lewis was born August 1st, 1770 in Caroline County, Virginia and gained fame as part of the team of explorers, Lewis & Clark. It is also Jerry Garcia’s birthday. These are two of the thousands of interesting little tidbits in Chase’s Calendar of Events, Cur Ref GT 4803. C48 2013.
