Libraries News

  • GALILEO Password: The GALILEO password will change on March 20th. You can get the new password from the Libraries’ Homepage and clicking on GALILEO password. Due to the various summer sessions (Through, Short, Almost Done…) the GALILEO password will change again, so don’t be surprised. Just sayin’.

  • ERIC Documents: More on the on-going saga of the ERIC Documents. ERIC has restored online access to more than 21,000 full-text PDFs with publication dates from 2005-2013. Hope springs eternal. We also kept our microfiche collection, housed in the basement of the Main Library, so you can also get access to EDs (1966-2004) from ERIC that way. Ask if you have questions about this.

  • Government Documents: Hallie Pritchett, Government Documents & Maps Librarian, announces that as of May 3rd, the final phase of the U.S. government documents collection move is complete.  The Libraries are in the process of updating locations for all of the government documents collections (U.S., Georgia, UN, British, Canadian) in GIL.  Anyone looking for government documents should visit the Map and Government Information Library in the subbasement of the Main Library. You can reach the subbasement via elevators. If we just let you walk down there, we’ll never see you again.

  • Dr. Kenneth Crews & Copyright: Dr. Kenneth Crews will be a guest of the Libraries on May 20th and will speak on “Copyright and the Academy: The Battle Turns to the Courts”. This lecture will be in the Special Collections Libraries Auditorium, room 271, from 10:00-11:30. Questions? Mariann Burright has the answers.

  • Traffic Delays on Lumpkin & Baxter: Now that you’ve been invited to the Special Collections Auditorium for this lecture, we’re morally obligated to tell that there may be traffic delays. Summer in Athens = Work being done on Lumpkin. Some places get swallows (or buzzards in Hinckley, Ohio) and Athens gets orange cones.

  • Need a Librarian? Guess what? We’ve got two for you in the COE: Nadine Cohen, Reference & Instruction Librarian for Education & Carla Wilson Buss, Curriculum Materials & Education Librarian, are happy to come to your classes to help your students with their research. Or meet with them one-on-one for in-depth research questions. Or help them with EndNote (Nadine) or RefWorks (Carla). Ask us.
