New Public Access Workstations Coming Soon to a CML Near You: Thanks to a generous grant from the UGA Parents & Families Association, the CML will soon receive eight new public workstations, seven PCs & one Mac. We’re very pleased to be able to offer better research tools to our patrons. Thanks, Parents & Families!

UGA Libraries’ Media Archives preserves only known films of stage actress: Oh the hidden gems in our collections. According to UGA Today, “Three reels of early home movies showing theater actress Annie Russell (1864-1936)-the only moving images of her known to exist-have been discovered in the University of Georgia Libraries’ Walter J. Brown Media Archives and Peabody Awards Collection, the only public institution in Georgia devoted entirely to preserving moving images.” Click here to read more.

Hargrett Library Announces Four New Collections: From the Libraries’ Blog comes news that the Hargrett Library, housed in the new Special Collections Library, has acquired four new collections—The Arthur W. McDonald collection of theatre engravings and playbills; Sir John Glubb’s letters to Diane Hanson; the Marie Mellinger Collection and the Frances Bryant Godwin papers.

Also from the Blog 2nd Annual Donald Hollowell Lecture, April 3rd: Join the School of Social Work and the Foot Soldier Project for Civil Rights Studies and Research for the 2nd Annual Donald L. Hollowell Lecture, on Wednesday, April 3, 2013, in the Auditorium of the Special Collections Library, room 271. The guest speaker will be Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield, Director General of the Foreign Service for the US State Department. A special reception will begin at 6:00 PM, followed by the lecture at 7:00 PM. RSVP by March 27 to sswrsvp@uga.edu or by phone at 706-542-3364. The Foot Soldier Project is dedicated to the study of the Civil Rights Movement in Georgia.

Library Staff Association Book & Bake Sale: If you have books you would like to, shall we say, transfer to someone else’s collection, or if you would like to acquire more for yourself, April 11th is your big chance. Donations of books, DVDs, CDs, VHS Tapes, video games, maps and computer software are gladly accepted. And, as part of that public service spirit of the Libraries, our very own Donnie Summerlin will pick up your donations from you. Half of the proceeds from the sale will go to the Food Bank of Northeast Georgia. The sale will be April 11th. Stay tuned for further details.
