Libraries News

  • Libraries’ Construction Updates: The big news this week is that the Reference Desk in the Main Library is moving from the ground floor to the second floor, probably June 13th. When you need help, please also consider using the Chat Reference option on the Libraries’ Homepage or visiting the “Contact Us” link from the Homepage. You can also always contact Carla Wilson Buss and Nadine Cohen for any COE questions or other research/library issues.

    • 7th Floor For Checking Out Books (Main Library): The Access Services Desk is currently on the 7th floor, so when you’re ready to check out materials, go up before you head for the door.

    • Science Library: Contractors are scheduled to begin erecting temporary construction walls on the north and west walls in preparation for the demolition where 5 windows will be added to the 2nd floor. The public service desks will still be operational on the 2nd floor. They will also have a limited number of workstations available for public use as well as a scanner and a print release station with 1 B/W and 1 color printer.

  • More Construction News: Construction continues on the southern end of Jackson Street and the completion date has been pushed back to June 11th. On the 11th, the southbound lane of Jackson should reopen, with the northbound lane expected to remain closed to traffic until August 3rd. The City and UGA buses are stopping at the corner of Fulton & Thomas Streets, (near the Tanner Building) for travel to the Main Library. The North Deck is also open, but you have to approach it from the north only. It all sort of makes you long for the traditional work on Lumpkin, doesn’t it?

  • Virtual Construction: The pages for Interlibrary Loan have been updated and revised. The opening page is the same, but the request pages have been redone. The reason? The Interlibrary Loan Office says, “Because we had to.” If you have any questions regarding the new pages, please contact ILL via email or by phone at 706.542.0643. Their hours are Monday–Friday, 8:00–5:00.

  • Puppet Pictures: In case you haven’t been convinced that the CML has some really cute puppets for use at home or in the classroom, here are our newest additions, providing proof:

The squirrel has a bit of an attitude, but he’s meeting with the graduate students in CHDS to work on his issues…
