LLED 4620/6620 Service-Learning Course

LLED 4620/6620 Service-Learning Course

Dr. Matthews offers a course each semester to support tutors and to deepen their knowledge about effective tutoring at these venues. LLED 4620/6620-E, ESOL Service-Learning, is offered for 1-3 credit hours (repeatable to 6 total).

For Spring 2010, the course will be offered entirely online (LLED 4620E/6620E), with an initial face-to-face meeting the first week of class (Jan. 12 at 2:30 in Aderhold 616) (or as arranged separately with the instructor). All other course content is done via eLC so does not conflict with students' other scheduled courses. In addition to the class component, all students provide 1–3 sessions per week of tutoring Latino students at approved community or school locations.

Participants must have schedule availability and transportation for about 2 hours of tutoring, generally between 3 and 6 p.m. (depending on program venue) for 1–3 afternoons each week. Some school-based venues also offer tutoring opportunities during the school day. See http://www.coe.uga.edu/clase/tutoring/index.html for venues. We strongly encourage all participants in these tutoring programs to enroll in this course concurrently with their tutoring.
