Mission:
The Master of Arts for Teachers (MAT) degree is designed for individuals who are not professionally certified to teach in a Career and Technical Education instructional field.
Students with a bachelor’s degree who desire to obtain initial teacher certification along with a master’s degree can pursue certification in business education, family and consumer sciences education, health occupations education, marketing education, technology education, and trade and industrial education.
In most instances students should consider an area of emphasis in a field that is related to their undergraduate major or occupational work experience.
Program Overview:
The MAT includes a minimum of 48 semester credit hours of coursework. The Program of Study for the MAT is divided into 4 categories:
- Core Professional Education – 24 semester credit hours
- Education Research – 3 semester credit hours
- Teaching Internship – 12 semester credit hours
- Certification Area – 9+ semester credit hours*
* Number of certification course may vary based on academic background
Students may wish to coordinate their MAT efforts with the Preparation Academy for Career and Technical Educators (PACTE) as they seek full certification licensure while they teach on a provisional license.
See the Program of Study menu for a complete listing of courses within the MAT degree program.
