Workforce Education: Traditional Doctor of Education (Ed.D.)

Mission:

Ed.D. degrees will prepare successful candidates for careers in leadership or administrative positions at secondary and post-secondary levels, university teaching, and other roles related to Career and Technical Education.  The primary goal of the EdD program is to better prepare professional educators to apply workable research strategies in their classrooms and schools that will have a direct connection to improved learning and teaching.

The Ed.D. is offered on the UGA Athens campus and features a face-to-face instructional format.  Students are admitted into the Ed.D. program each Fall semester.  The deadline for applications is March 15 of the year in which studies will begin.

Program Overview:

The Workforce Education Ed.D. in Athens requires a minimum of 49 semester credit hours of coursework and dissertation.  The Program of Study for the Ed.D. – Athens is divided into 5 categories:

  • Core Courses – 6 semester credit hours
  • Elective Courses – 6 semester credit hours
  • Educational Research Courses  – 15 semester credit hours
  • Functional Minor Courses – 9 semester credit hours
  • Dissertation Courses – 15+ semester credit hours** Number of doctoral dissertation credit hours may vary based on academic need
