How to Apply – SLM

Here is a step-by-step account of how to apply to the SLM Cohort at Gwinnett:

  1. Be sure that the SLM program is right for you by reviewing the information on our web site. You should contact the Program Coordinator, if you have any general questions or concerns. If you have questions after reviewing the information on this website, email them to slmedia@uga.edu.
  2. If you decide to apply, contact the Graduate School. All of the forms (Application, Recommendation letters) can be obtained from the UGA Graduate School’s Application Web site.There is also a complete on-line version of the UGA Graduate Bulletin. Specific questions about completing the application should be directed to the Graduate School. They can be reached by e-mail (gradadm@uga.edu), or phone (706-542-1739).
  3. Complete the application form and submit the application fee directly to the Graduate School Admissions Office. You are applying for the M.Ed., Ed.S., or Non-Degree in Learning, Design, and Technology, leading to certification. If a choice of emphasis area is given, choose School Library Media. Our graduate school code is 454.
  4. Contact every college you attended and have them send two official transcripts directly to:

  5. Take the Graduate Record Exam (GRE) and attain acceptable test scores on the verbal and quantitative sections (individually and combined). These scores must be sent directly by the Educational Testing Service to the Graduate School Admission Office. International students must also submit an acceptable TOEFL score. For information about the GRE, visit:http://www.ets.org/

  6. Submit a Goal Statement that explains in detail (1-2 pages) your goals and why you are interested in the degree program to which you are applying (i.e. how your goals match up). Admission to each cohort is expected to be competitive, so take some time with this. Imagine that you are speaking to our Admissions Committee when you write this (it is usually the first thing that is read).   7. Submit three letters of recommendation. It is your choice who writes these letters, but keep in mind that these letters should be written by individuals who are able to speak about your professional qualifications and your potential for success in graduate study. These letters can be sent directly to the Program Coordinator (forms can be found on the Graduate School web site).
  8. Complete all of the required application materials so that they are received by the announced application deadline.

All questions about tuition and fees need to be directed to the graduate school and/or the bursar’s office because the program coordinator and faculty are not involved in the student’s financial aspects of graduate education.
