ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS FOR THE LDT RESEARCH MASTER’S DEGREE

The decision to admit an applicant to a degree program is based on a careful review of the entire application. The goal statement and letters of recommendation are particularly important. Acceptable GPAs and test scores for the research M.Ed. are required as per the following:

*The analytical section of the GRE is not used in the admissions decision.

All international applicants must also take the TOEFL exam. The minimum score for this exam is 213 for the computer version, 550 for the printed version, or an overall score of 80 with at least 20 on speaking and writing (Internet-based).

The Graduate School requires a graduate application for admission, $75 application fee for domestic applicants and $100 for international applicants, and evidence of a bachelor’s degree.

General Degree Requirements
The LDT Research Masters program consists of a minimum of 37 semester hours. Students must maintain a 3.0 average in all graduate courses in their programs of study. During the course of their program of study, students are required to develop a portfolio of products which reflects the skills that they have developed and the knowledge they have gained within the program. The portfolio is similar to that required of the IDD emphasis area and serves as the basis of a comprehensive oral examination which is required at the end of the student¹s program.(Click here to go to the IDD Portfolio Management page.)

Technology Requirements
All students admitted into the program should have their own laptop computer and prescribed software. A video camera may also be needed depending on specific course options. Prescribed software will be confirmed to the applicant at the time of admission but may include:

  • Windows or Apple laptop (you must be able to bring this with you to class);
  • Microsoft Office;
  • Adobe Creative Suite 4 Web Premium (Approximately $350).

    -UGA’s Managed Software Distribution (MSD)

Your laptop’s minimum configuration must be compatible with the specifications of Adobe Creative Suite software:

Your laptop must also be configured for wireless Internet, USB, Firewire, and be capable of reading/viewing CDs and DVDs.

Purchasing additional RAM and as large a hard drive as possible is recommended.

Additional external storage is also recommended (especially for video work), such as a firewire external hard drive with a capacity of 500GB – 1 Terabyte.

(It is also recommended that students with Apple laptops also purchase iLife. Students with Apple laptops who find themselves focusing on video-related projects should consider purchasing Final Cut Express.)

Other software may be required for specific courses.
