How to Apply – IDD

Here is a step-by-step account of how to apply to the IDD Cohort at Gwinnett:

  1. Be sure that the IDD program is right for you by reviewing the information on our web site. You should contact the Program Coordinator, if you have any general questions or concerns. You may also contact other faculty with questions or just to talk about your goals and whether our program is right for you.
  2. If you decide to apply, contact the Graduate School. All of the forms (Application, Recommendation letters) can be obtained from the UGA Graduate School’s Application Web site. There is also a complete on-line version of the UGA Graduate Bulletin. Specific questions about completing the application should be directed to the Graduate School. They can be reached by e-mail (gradadm@uga.edu), or phone (706-542-1739).
  3. Complete the application form and submit the application fee directly to the Graduate School Admissions Office. You are applying for the M.Ed., Ed.S., or Non-Degree in Learning, Design, and Technology, non-certification. If a choice of emphasis area is given, choose Instructional Design and Development. Our graduate school code is 454.
  4. Contact every college you attended and have them send two official transcripts directly to:

    Graduate Admissions
    University of Georgia
    320 E. Clayton St., Suite 400
    Athens, Georgia 30602-4401

  5. Take the Graduate Record Exam (GRE) and attain acceptable test scores on the verbal and quantitative sections (individually and combined). These scores must be sent directly by the Educational Testing Service to the Graduate School Admission Office. International students must also submit an acceptable TOEFL score. For information about the GRE, visit:http://www.ets.org/
      (Click on “GRE.”)

Use this link to help find a GRE Test Location:

  6. Submit a Goal Statement that explains in detail (1-2 pages) your goals and why you are interested in the degree program to which you are applying (i.e. how your goals match up). Include the following specifics: your ability to be a self-directed learner; how well or how willingly you work in groups or teams; your interest in using technology for learning in innovative or creative ways; your ability to embrace project-based instructional approaches. Admission to each cohort is expected to be competitive, so take some time with this. Imagine that you are speaking to our Admissions Committee when you write this (it is usually the first thing that is read). This statement can be emailed as a pdf attachment to the CIS Assistant to the Graduate Coordinator at mpass@uga.edu.
  7. Three letters of recommendation must be received with your application. It is your choice who writes these letters, but keep in mind that these letters should be written by individuals who are able to speak about your professional qualifications and your potential for success in graduate study. (For example, they should not be written by family members.) These recommendations are normally solicited electronically by following the steps in the online application form (https://www.applyweb.com/apply/ugagrad/). Alternatively, recommenders can send letters directly to the CIS Assistant to the Graduate Coordinator at mpass@uga.edu or mailed to:

IDD Program Coordinator
Learning, Design, and Technology Program
Department of Career and Information Studies, The University of Georgia
850 College Station Road
