Student Advisement & Enrollment Policy

Students are assisted and directed throughout their programs of study by advisors (sometimes referred to as Major Professors), and by advisory committees. While the process of assigning advisors and advisory committees varies by program and by degree level, the goal is generally the same, and that is to provide students with personal assistance in program planning, monitoring, evaluation and completion.

Enrollments are restricted in each program to ensure that instructional resources and clinical facilities are adequate, and to ensure that students have an opportunity to learn in a supportive environment. Each program in The Department admits students for matriculation at a single point of time in the year. Therefore, each program is able to build on the natural group dynamics of each cohort to enhance the learning experience.

The intent of the present document is merely introductory, and should not be considered exhaustive or comprehensive. The Graduate School of The University of Georgia prints an official document entitled The Graduate Bulletin that serves as each student's official guide for graduate study. Applicants should write The Graduate School for a copy of the current issue if they wish details beyond the level provided herein.
