University Requirements
The following information was taken from The University of Georgia Bulletin to provide an overview of the official statements regarding particular issues pertaining to your degree program. The Bulletin is considered your agreement with the University, in the sense that expectations and regulations described therein are considered by The University of Georgia as binding policies and procedures. Departments and programs may institute requirements and procedures above and beyond those specified by the Graduate School, but no program is permitted to alter or reduce those specified in the Bulletin. If at any time during your program of study you are confused about degree requirements or procedures, please consult with your advisor or the Coordinator of the CSAA program.

University Academic Honesty-Short Form
The Department of Counseling and Human Development Services (CHDS) works to promote and uphold the University of Georgia’s academic honesty policy as set by the Office of the Vice President for Instruction (OVPI). The department seeks to maintain the personal integrity of all academic work done by its students. The academic honesty policy applies to both students and all those in the university community. By doing so, it ensures the veracity of students’ work and that they might reap the honors and praise they are due.

While the Academic Honesty Policy is made readily available in a number of forms, it is still the responsibility of the entire academic community to be aware of and follow the policy and its procedures. To help students with their understanding, this website has been created to offer a student-friendly way to become familiar with the academic honesty policy. The pages in this website break down the policy into small segments and give everyday examples of its applications.

CHDS students are asked to review this student-friendly version of the academic honesty policy. After reviewing the policy and its examples, each student will be taken through a series of exercise pages. Students are asked to print the pledge certificate at the end of the exercises and return a copy to your advisor for your permanent file.

Note: This short form of the academic honesty policy does not replace or override the official academic honesty policy of the university. It is only meant to be a supplement to help students better understand the lengthier document. Any and all specific questions regarding the academic honesty policy should be directed to the Office of the Vice President for Instruction, whose information is listed on our Contacts page.         arrow leading to the short form page Proceed to Short Form Proceed to Short Form

Student Advisement and Enrollment
Students are assisted and directed throughout their programs of study by advisors (sometimes referred to as Major Professors), and by advisory committees. While the process of assigning advisors and advisory committees varies by program and by degree level, the goal is generally the same, and that is to provide students with personal assistance in program planning, monitoring, evaluation and completion.

Enrollments are restricted in each program to ensure that instructional resources and clinical facilities are adequate, and to ensure that students have an opportunity to learn in a supportive environment. Each program in The Department admits students for matriculation at a single point of time in the year. Therefore, each program is able to build on the natural group dynamics of each cohort to enhance the learning experience.

The intent of the present document is merely introductory, and should not be considered exhaustive or comprehensive. The Graduate School of The University of Georgia prints an official document entitled The Graduate Bulletin that serves as each student’s official guide for graduate study. Applicants should write The Graduate School for a copy of the current issue if they wish details beyond the level provided herein.

Time Limit
The University requires that “all requirements for a professional masters degree must be completed within six (6) years beginning with the first registration for courses on the student’s program of study. An extension of time may be granted only on conditions beyond the control of the student” (Bulletin, p. 56). It is the expectation of the department that students admitted to the College Student Affairs Administration Program on a full-time basis will complete all requirements for the masters degree in two calendar years.

Grade Point Average
“To be eligible for graduation a student must maintain a 3.0 (B) average on all graduate courses taken and on all courses on the program of study” (Bulletin, p. 57).

Program of Study
“A program of study should be prepared by the student and the major professor during the student’s second semester of residence. This program must be submitted to the Graduate School on Application for Admission to Candidacy forms and must be approved by the major professor, graduate coordinator, and the dean of the Graduate School” (Bulletin, p. 57). The program of study is made up of all the courses already taken and the courses that will be taken to complete degree requirements. Once the program of study is filed, any changes in the courses taken must be approved by the advisor and graduate coordinator (Dr. Merrily Dunn) before taking the course(s). A change of program of study form also must be filed with the Graduate School for each change made. These forms are available from the Graduate Records Specialist in 402 Aderhold. The Program of Study form should be filed with the Graduate School no later than Fall Semester of the second year of study. Forms can be obtained from the departmental office in 402 Aderhold.

Institutional Policies Related to Students
Students are encouraged to become familiar with University-wide policies which are described in the student affairs handbook for all students. Pay particular attention to policies pertaining to drug/alcohol use, sexual harassment, safety and security, parking, use of space and facilities. These are some important student life issues to be familiar with prior to beginning your program of study.
