Professional Counseling, Specialization: School Counseling, M.Ed.2006 Cohort
My name is Shellie Caplinger and I am a member of the 2006 school counseling cohort. I am originally from Ohio where I received my undergraduate degree in music education from Youngstown Sate University. I have been a teacher for seven years with five of those years being in Colorado. While there I taught band, choir and general music in a public school to students at the elementary, middle and high school levels. I am currently teaching music at an elementary school in Gwinnett County where I have enjoyed the experience of teaching in a school with a highly diverse population of students. I have thoroughly enjoyed my teaching experience, but through my work with current and previous students I have realized my passion to work with children in a different capacity. I decided that school counseling was a great fit for me and would allow me to advocate for students helping them to be successful academically, socially and in career decision making. I believe that school counselors play a vital role in developing a supportive school climate where students can achieve success. The UGA school counseling program has provided me with many challenges and learning experiences allowing for me to grow both personally and professionally. The cohort model makes for an instant support system that truly enhances the program experience. I am very grateful for the 8 new friends I have made and could not imagine going through the program without them. If you have any questions about the program please feel free to contact me at Shellie1@uga.edu |
