Professional Counseling, Specialization: School Counseling, M.Ed.

2006 Cohort

Brad Sikes

Electronic Portfolio

Level:

Originally, I am from Cordele, GA.  I graduated from UGA in 1994 with a degree in Health and Physical Education.  In 1996, I completed a Masters in Middle Grades at UGA, and I also pursued post-graduate classes in Educational Leadership.  For five years, I have taught in local middle and elementary schools.  My focus in school counseling is in the middles grades.

As a teacher and a coach working with large groups, I came to appreciate working with students in one-on-one and small group settings.  I found myself drawn to making a difference in the lives of young people at these more individual levels.  It was fulfilling to me as a teacher to help students focus on social/emotional growth, conflict resolution, attendance, and achievement.  As a school counselor, I look forward to the wonderful opportunity to work more closely with students in these areas.

As part of a nationally recognized school counseling program here at UGA, I feel well-prepared for the challenges that lay ahead.  The cohort system is an ideal way to learn and grow with a group.  The faculty is caring and supportive, and they offer a wealth of knowledge, experience, and insight.  Please contact me with any questions at bradsikes@hotmail.com.
