Professional Counseling, Specialization: School Counseling, M.Ed.

2006 Cohort

Ashley Stogner

Electronic Portfolio

Level:

I am originally from the Sandy Springs area of Atlanta, Georgia. Although I have always wanted to work with children and be in some area of counseling; it was not until my junior year of undergrad studies at the UGA that I decided to research the school counseling programs. During that time, I worked alongside an elementary school counselor as an assistant and became a volunteer participant in Dr. Bailey’s EYP programs. Both of these experiences were influential in my continuing pursuance of becoming a school counselor.

In May 2004, I graduated from the UGA with a degree in Psychology and started the school counseling program in June. My reasons for choosing this field of continuing study are: I could extend my stay in my beloved Bulldawg country, the cohort model and, saving the best reason for last, UGA was known to have one of the best school counseling graduate programs because of its nationally recognized faculty! The experience has been quite challenging, yet vastly rewarding. The cohort model has especially been gratifying to me because I now have nine peers that are my support personally and professionally.
