Program Overview

School counselor preparation and practice is being transformed nation-wide. Whether you are an experienced school counselor wanting to update your knowledge and skills or a veteran counselor or human service professional who wants to make a difference in the lives of school-age children, we’d like to help you make the transition. The Department of Counseling and Human Development Services at The University of Georgia is launching a Professional School Counseling Educational Specialist’s Degree in Professional School Counseling to be offered at the Gwinnett University Center. The degree is designed for individuals who have a master’s degree in school counseling or a closely related field (e.g., community counseling, rehabilitation counseling, or social work) who wish to pursue advanced study in school counseling. Successful completion of this sequence results in recommendation for certification as a school counselor at the advanced level. The program is designed to be completed as a unified sequence of courses over two summers and the intervening academic year. All students are required to enroll as members of a 25-person cohort who will complete the program together. Classes for Summer 2005 are expected to begin no earlier than June 10th and conclude no later than July 22nd on a Mondays through Thursdays between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.
