Congratulations Students
Congratulations Students Chelsi Hill, Chelsea Murphy, Cara Day, and Sarabeth Warren were recognized at the Annual Fall Banquet for their contributions to RLST and being nominated for the Outstanding Undergraduate Senior Award. Sarabeth Warren graduated with the highest cumulative grade point of 3.88 in her December 2004 RLST class.
Congratulations to the newly elected 2004 Recreation Club Officers: Alice Johnston and Katie Bourke, Co-Presidents, John Newman and Russ James, Co-Vice Presidents; Betty Joines, Treasurer, and Emily Hunt and Christy Hussain, Co-Secretaries.
Master's students, Angela Cobbs, Meri Cambre, Annie Hagberg, and faculty, Billy Hawkins (PESS) and Gwynn Powell, led training workshops "Tips and Tricks for High Energy, yet Thought Provoking Fun and Games" for the after-school program staff at four ACC Middle Schools and will continue leading sessions once a month.
Taylor Smith was the recipient of the 2004 RLST Outstanding Student Award. Taylor has recently completed his internship and graduated in December.
Students enrolled in RLST 2800 and 3850 participated in a Recreation Sports Group Initiatives Course September 16th led by doctoral student, Brent Wolfe.
Susan Dunn graduated with a master's degree in December. She is continuing to work with Mike Tarrant and the New Zealand study abroad program through spring semester.
Master's student, Nate Olive, presented his Pacific Crest Trail Slide Show at Nuci's Space on December 13 chronicling his hike with Sarah Janes from May 17th to Oct 12th, 2003, walking 2,658 miles from Mexico to Canada through California, Oregon, and Washington to raise money for Welcome Home Ministries, see www.thawookie.com
Master's student, Allan Autry, received an award for Oconee Park and Recreation for going beyond the call of duty as a soccer referee. Master's student, Carly Robinson
received a scholarship to attend the Association of Outdoor Recreation and Education Conference November 5-8 in Orem, Utah. presented on Wilderness Orientation Programs speaking specifically about the work she has done at UGA with "Dawg Camp" at the International Conference on Outdoor Recreation and Education in Orem, UT on November 7th. presented with Donna Waters, Outdoor Recreation Coordinator for UGA Recreation and Sports, and Candy Sherman, Associate Dean of Students in the UGA Student Leadership Center at the National Intramural and Recreation Sports Association Annual Conference on "Collaborative Efforts to Create Freshmen Wilderness Orientation Programs" in Athens on December 6th. Master's student, Uttiyo Raychaudhuri
was selected as one of five 2003 Lucille and Derby Dustin Future Scholars by The Academy of Leisure Sciences and the Society of Park and Recreation Educators. As a future scholar, he had his expenses paid to attend the 2003 National Recreation and Parks Congress in St. Louis and participated in various educational opportunities. successfully defended his thesis, graduated in December, and has begun work on his doctorate in RLST.
