Doug Kleiber:

  • was featured in the January 12th edition of the UGA Columns describing his research accomplishments and his recent acceptance of the Theodore and Franklin Roosevelt Award for Excellence in Research bestowed by the National Recreation and Park Association.
  • was featured in an article that appeared in the spring 2004 edition of the UGA Biomedical and Health Sciences newsletter Health Sciences describing his contributions as a researcher and his recent prestigious award by the National Recreation and Park Association.

Gwynn Powell:

  • and students in her classes, John Newman and Sarah Slagel were quoted in the Athens-Banner-Herald on February 16, 2004 for their work with the Partnership for Community Learning Centers at Chase Street Elementary.

The article describes her exploits as the top-ranked singles player in the country as she plays for RLS alum and Head Coach of the Women's Tennis Team, Jeff Wallace (B.S. Diane Samdahl was quoted in the March 31st edition of the Augusta Chronicle in the article: Knitting group provides therapy: Stitching binds UGA students."

BlazeSports Clubs of America sponsored the 2004 National Disability Sports Conference at UGA March 8-10 and was featured on the cover of the March 22nd edition UGA Columns. The following RLST students, under the supervision of Lynne Cory and Annie Hagberg, assisted with planning and implementation of activities: Allan Autry, Bharat Bhatia, Kristin Combs, Eric Gray, KB Hoffman, Ryan Hines, Betty Joines, Allison Johnson, Anna Samples, Bryce Teale, Jennifer Thomas, and Jenny Young.

The following is a quote from the article "Finals conflict with program's spring break week Intersession activities" by Alisa DeMao published 5-8-04 in Athens Banner Herald: Students from the recreation and leisure studies program usually come up with about a quarter of the programming, said Kent Kilpatrick, director of the Athens-Clarke County Leisure Services Department. The two intersession directors - both graduate students in the recreation and leisure services program at UGA, organized their final exam schedules around the intersession. "Meri (Cambre) and I had been planning this since February, so we knew what we would have to do," Carly Robinson said of the plans she and her co-director made.
