Research Centers & Projects - Juvenile Counseling & Assessment Program (JCAP)

The Juvenile Counseling and Assessment Program (J.C.A.P. Team) is a collaborative approach for court-referred youths and their families through the partnership of the Athens-Clarke County Juvenile Court, Department of Children and Youth Services (DCYS), Department of Counseling and Human Development Services in the College of Education, The University of Georgia, and the Athens-Clarke County community. Staff members of the J. C.A.P. Team provide comprehensive psychological services by combining the youth, family, school, and community perspective in assessing the needs of court-referred youths.

The J.C.A.P. Team is a training and research project of the Department of Counseling and Human Development Services, The University of Georgia. The counselors are doctoral or masters level counselors-in-training whose work is closely supervised by faculty. Researchers are interested in (1) finding out how counseling benefits clients such as your child, and (2) developing prevention and intervention programs for the community.

The J. C.A. P. Team mainly provides services in the Juvenile Court facility. However because the project works in collaboration with the Athens-Clarke County community and The University of Georgia, services (e.g., group sessions or activities) may be provided in other locations.
