UGA counseling professor Edward Delgado-Romero named APA fellow
Edward Delgado-Romero, an associate professor in the department of counseling and human development services, receives Early Career Award from the National Latino Psychological Association.
Dr. Edward Delgado-Romero has been approved by the Society of Counseling Psychology (Division 17)Executive Board of the American Psychological Association to serve as an Editorial Board member for The Counseling Psychologist. This journal is the premier journal of the counseling psychology profession.

Edward Delgado-Romero - Associate Professor of
Counseling Psychology
Delgado-Romero was named a Fellow of the Society of Psychological Study of Ethnic Minority Issues (Division 45). He is a founding member of the National Latina/o Psychological Association and also served as its treasurer. His research interests include multicultural psychology, Latino psychology, race and ethnicity, faculty of color retention and multicultural competence.
Safer Spaces: Creating a more supportive rehabilitation environment for gay, transgendered and questioning youth
Dr. Corey Johnson & Dr. Edward Delgado-Romero have received a new grant (January 2007) for:
Safer Spaces: Creating a more supportive rehabilitation environment for gay, transgendered and questioning youth is collaboration between faculty in Recreation and Leisure Studies, Counseling Psychology and the Augusta Youth Detention Center Campus, centered on assessing and meeting the needs of staff and adjudicated youth in relation to gay identity development. Given the predominantly African American makeup of YDC youth, the intersection of racial identity development will also be addressed. Dr. Johnson (Recreation and Leisure Studies) and Dr. Delgado-Romero (Counseling-Psychology) will work with two Counseling-Psychology doctoral students to develop a resource program to address the needs of LGBT and question youth and also involve graduate students from a RLST 7130 (Experiential Education) to develop and implement social justice/cultural competency training for the staff of the facility. This project aims to meet an expressed need of the State agency while at the same time creating opportunities for service, outreach, service-learning, and research.
