Provided weekly tutoring to undergraduate student-athletes in Psychology and English courses. Prepared review materials, and taught basic study skills. Monitored students progress, provided progress reports, and provided psychological and educational referrals when necessary. In addition, provided resume development, interview skills preparation and short-term career counseling. GRADUATE TEACHING ASSISTANT GRADUATE TEACHING ASSISTANT PEER TUTOR IN COUNSELING RESEARCH: Experience PRIMARY INVESTIGATOR Independent dissertation research examining the effects of an experiential psychoeducational group experience as an adjunct to Graduate multicultural counselor training. Original data collection project from three CACREP approved counseling programs. Project supported by the Pennsylvania State University School of Education Holmes award in addition to grant funding from the College of Education Alumni Society. ASSOCIATE EDITOR Served as the Internship Editor for the APAGS Newsletter serving graduate students in psychology. Solicited, selected and edited submissions for the internship section of the newsletter. Wrote a quarterly editorial column and provided assistance to the Editor in relation to the publication of The American Psychological Association Graduate Student Newsletter. ASSOCIATE EDITOR Served as the Editor for Education for the APAGS Newsletter serving graduate students in psychology. Solicited, selected and edited submissions for the education section of the newsletter. Wrote a quarterly editorial column and provided assistance to the Editor in relation to the publication of The American Psychological Association Graduate Student Newsletter. EDITORIAL ASSISTANT Assisted Dr. Edwin Herr, by conducting preliminary reviews on manuscripts, monitoring manuscript progression using the JCD database, and initiating action in response to manuscript submissions. Additionally, conducted literature searches, and provided administrative assistance to the Editor in relation to the publication of The Journal of Counseling and Development. Co-INVESTIGATOR Independent research project examining the personal and professional experiences of counselors in training and their effects on multicultural counseling dyads using the Cross-Cultural Autobiography. Collected and analyzed data from a large sample (n=183) of masters level students in an introduction to multicultural counseling class. Completed interpretations of results and presented the results at the American Psychological Association's 1995 Annual Convention in New York, New York. Additionally completed an analysis of a within group sample of 126 white counselor trainees to assist in making recommendations for the revamping of multicultural training of the predominately white female students in counselor training programs. Results presented at the American Psychological Association 1996 Annual Convention in Toronto, Canada and prepared two manuscripts for publication submission. RESEARCH TEAM MEMBER Participated in individual and group research on ethical issues in multicultural counseling, research and training. Assisted in the compilation and synthesis of literature, and prepared proposals for both national and state level conferences on multicultural issues under the supervision of Dr.'s Harold Cheatham and Beverly Vandiver. STUDENT INVESTIGATOR/RESEARCH TEAM MEMBER Participated as part of a research team investigating perfectionism in college students headed by Dr. Robert B. Slaney. Assisted with data collection by performing qualitative interviews on self identified subjects at Pennsylvania State University. Collected data at Howard University utilizing a test battery of perfectionism, career development, and social desirability scales to gather information about the Slaney Almost Perfect Scale of Perfectionism on African-American college students. MEASUREMENT CONSTRUCTION JUDGE/SCALE RATER Served as a rater on a Black identity scale based on Nigrescence Theory of racial identity developed by Dr. William Cross (1971). Rated 126 items on their relevance to Nigrescence theory on three stages (Pre-encounter, immersion/emersion, internalization and the salience of race) in addition to two substages of each stage. GRADUATE RESEARCH ASSISTANT Assisted Dr. Kathleen J. Bieschke by performing data analysis, literature reviews, manuscript editing, and a variety of additional administrative tasks. Assisted in proposal writing to a variety of local and national professional organizations for conferences. In addition, served as the student representative assisting faculty with the coordination and implementation of prospective Ph.D. candidates for the program in Counseling Psychology. RESEARCH ASSISTANT Worked on a research team interviewing and conducting post-test interviews utilizing a battery of psychological assessments for children and families who had experienced environmental violence. Duties included data collection, instrument scoring, and data analysis. Collaborated on the writing of an invited manuscript for publication in The Journal of Negro Education. PRINCIPAL ADMINISTRATOR Implemented a training program for graduate-interns to provide psychoeducational groups to public inner-city high school students. Duties included coordinating and developing all aspects of the project as well as supervising and training the interns as group facilitator. Prepared ongoing comprehensive progress reports. GRADUATE RESEARCH ASSISTANT Assisted Dr. C. E. Vontress by organizing and interpreting data, conducting literature reviews, and editing articles related to cross cultural counseling. Assisted in the writing and submission of two articles for publication in scholarly journals. FIELD TEAM SUPERVISOR Assisted Dr. Danielle Bussell on the Parental Job Loss Study training and supervising a team of nine undergraduate/graduate research assistants examining the psychological effects of unemployment on children. Disseminated team assignments, organized and conducted training sessions, monitored data collection, and coordinated team work schedules and prepared correspondences related to the study. DATA INTERPRETER/TAPE RATER Processed and rated videotaped group interactions, dynamics and defenses from a psychoanalytic approach. Assisted in the entering and interpreting of data for reliability and validity using a statistical package designed for the study. Analyzed group therapy in detail and contributed to the data collection for the dissertation of Dr. Linda Powell. UNDERGRADUATE RESEARCH ASSISTANT Worked with Dr. Hope Hill interviewing, testing, and providing follow up counseling to families who had experienced environmental violence. Duties included data collection, instrument scoring, data interpretation using SPSS, psychometric development, conducting focus groups in schools, and providing in-home visits. UNDERGRADUATE RESEARCH ASSISTANT Served as a research assistant for Dr. Rebecca Reviere conducting literature reviews, coding and data interpretation using SPSS to analyze the physical and psychological effects of work related stress on women.
