The Student Clock is a general timeline of what a
student may typically experience throughout the school
year.
You may be able to gather some programing ideas by
simply being aware of some of their basic needs and concerns. The Student
Clock also provides you with a way of looking ahead and predicting some of
the future needs of your residents.
September - Homesickness, no sense of belonging, adjustments to college (freedom from home, lifestyle changes, new responsibilities, questions about their environment), roommate conflicts, loss of constant contact with "significant other" from home, and safety concerns. October - First indications of study skills/habits...or lack thereof..., high school "significant others" break up or struggle with long distance relationships, peer groups alter based on attraction rather than location, and loners become more visible. arrives...and cabin fever begins, new dating December - Finals, more cabin fever, holiday shopping and lack of money bring stress, increase in hall thefts, and suicidal thoughts and concerns arise due to academics and going home for the holidays. February - Planning begins for Spring Break, weight concerns, money concerns, and loss of interest in academics. March - Concerns about summer plans, alcohol issues arise due to Spring Break, money and financial concerns still exist, and living arrangements for the next school year begin to cause stress.
