HOW TO APPLY
Minimum Qualifications
- Interest in working with students in an advisory capacity in a residential
community
- Academic classification of sophomore or above at time of employment
- Minimum cumulative UGA grade point average of 2.2 by the end of the Spring
quarter or at the time of employment if hired during the year
- Minimum of one quarter residency in University of Georgia Housing
preferred, but not required
- Be available for a full academic year (September to June) if hired to
begin service in September
- Be a student in good standing at the University of Georgia
The Application Process
Applications
are accepted throughout the year and can be evaluated whenever a position
becomes available in a residence hall. The formal application process
occurs in two phases.
Phase I: At the end of the Fall quarter
through the beginning of the Spring quarter, students are enocuraged to fill out
an application for positions opening in September. All applicants will
then be interviewed on the same day with varying times. This interview
process will be one group activity, two group interviews, and a
question/answer period.
Phase II: Letters will be sent out to all
applicants informing them whether or not they have made it to the second round
of interviews. Those that move on will be assigned a residential commuity
in which they will interview. The interview team will consist of various
Graduate Residents and a Residence Life Coordinator. If the applicant is
interviewing for both a CA and an RA position, they will also interview with a
C.L.A.S.S. Program Consultant.
The finalist of this process are then assigned a community and informed
of their status in writing.
ECP 400
ECP 400 are classes that must be completed by all
RA's and CA's. THhe purpose of the course is to develop an understanding
of staff roles within the framework of student developement. It requires a
personal examination of values, life experiences and awareness of
differences. It also helps develop skills needed to be an effective peer
helper and successful programmers.
Summer RA's
Summer Resident Assistant
positions are only for June through August. Applications are open to all
students including those currently serving or who will be serving as RA's and
CA's. Applicants will be reviewed by the professional and graduate staff
of the residence hall and chosen based on application and interview. There
are programming requirements for Summer RA's.

Purpose of the Interview
It provides you with the opportunity to point out how your skills,
talents and interests could help the Department of University Housing;
It allows you the chance to find out more about the Department and the
expectations of the staff; and It gives the interviewer time to assess your
qualifications, appearance, and suitability for the CA or RA position.

- Know all you can about the CA or RA position
- Know yourself as an applicant
- Know the routine of the interview

- Can you pick which residence hall you want to work in?
No, the
professional and graduate staff will choose which residence hall the applicant
will serve in.
- How much do Resident Assistant and C.L.A.S.S. Advocates get paid?
Resident Assistants and C.L.A.S.S. Advocates are paid approximately $200
per month and receive a free single room.
- When does the job start?
For those hired during the formal
process, the start date is September.
- What type of training do Resident Assistants or C.L.A.S.S. Advocates
receive?
There is a week of training at the beginning of Fall quarter,
2 ECP 400 classes, and inservices offered in the Winter and the
Spring.
