About the
S.A.F.E. Committee
In 1996, the Division
of Student Affairs at the University of Georgia assessed a need on campus for
education on sexual assault and rape issues. A group of professionals and
administrators from areas such as the Department of Housing, Office of Greek
Life, Gilbert Health Services, and the Athens Rape Crises Center began working
together with one goal in mind: educating students and campus members on
sexual assault prevention through education. The S.A.F.E.. (Sexual Assault
Focused Education) Committee works toward their goal by sponsoring campus-wide
programming efforts such as speakers, performers and signs discussing sexual
assault and rape.
