What's in a lease?
- A lease is the legal agreement between the occupants and the
landlord stating the terms and conditions associated with renting the
apartment/house.
- Most landlords require a written lease
- The agreement should be signed by both you and your
landlord
- Generally, leases are for a twelve month period. If
this time period doesn't work for you, talk to the landlord about negotiating
a different lease.
- Before signing, be sure to read it completely and understand
the terms. Once you sign it, you are legally bound to the
agreement.
- If you do not abide by the lease terms, your landlord may
pursue legal action against you. Eviction may be the
result!
- If you rent with another person, you will both be held to
the terms. If your roommate doesn't pay your landlord can demand payment
from you!
