What entrance exam do I need to take?
You may take the Graduate Record Exam (GRE) or the Miller’s Analogies Test (MAT).

Will I be able to work and be in this program?
This is a full-time program, courses are generally offered during the day with occasional evening classes.

Are classes offered on the weekends?
Usually no; however occasionally electives are offered or out-of-class expectations require weekend time commitments.

Where are courses taught? Are there any satellite or Internet courses?
Most courses are taught at the main campus in Athens. Occasionally elective courses are offered at our Gwinnett Campus or online. Some required courses will use mixed methods of delivery.

When are courses offered?
Courses are typically offered during the day.

How many days a week are courses offered?
This will vary by semester. Currently, students are typically on campus Monday through Thursday during summer school and usually two – three days a week during the academic year.

Do you have to have teaching certification or teaching experience to be admitted to the program or certified in Georgia?
No.

At the completion of this program, will I be eligible for licensure as a licensed professional counselor or for certification as a nationally certified counselor?
Yes, with additional requirements involving examinations and supervision.

How much does this graduate program cost?
Tuition and fees change frequently. Current information can be found by contacting the Business and Finance Office.

Are there any assistantships or financial aid available for master’s students?
Within the department, priority is given to providing assistantships to doctoral students. Occasionally, master’s students have obtained assistantships within the department or across campus. Residence life offers live-in positions in housing. Financial aid information is available through the UGA Financial Aid Office (542-6147).

Do you have any certification only programs? What courses do I have to take in order to be certified?
We offer only degree programs, no certification only programs or coursework.

Will I be able to complete this program in less than two years?
No.

What is the time commitment for practicum and internship?
Practicum is 100 hours during the first spring semester, usually involving 1-2 days per week in a school. Internship is 600 hours occurring over fall and spring of the second year. Students are usually in their sites 2-3 days per week for internship.
