Program Overview
The College Student Affairs Administration Master’s Program (CSAA-M) is designed to prepare students to work in student affairs and other student-oriented areas in higher education. The curriculum is grounded in student development and learning and in the connection of theory to practice. Students are given instruction and supervised practice in working with individual students who need assistance, with student organizations, and in administrative structures.
Unique Features of the CSAA-M Program
- The program has six full-time faculty members who devote their time to instruction in CSAA-M, the College Student Affairs Administration Doctoral Program (CSAA-D), and the Ed.D. in Student Affairs Leadership (SAL). All faculty members are experienced student affairs administrators. In addition, there are a number of senior administrators in Student Affairs at the University of Georgia and other nearby institutions who have appointments as adjunct faculty members and who are actively involved in the program.
- Enrollment is limited to assure that there is approximately a 1:15 ratio of full-time faculty to students. Ample opportunity is provided for one-to-one student-faculty interaction.
- Faculty and students are committed to enhancing each other’s learning. All students are expected to be active participants in the learning community and to provide support to each other.
- Coursework includes foundations of student affairs, student development theories, helping skills, group interventions, research methods, campus
environments, multicultural practice, legal issues in student affairs, administrative practices, and assessment and evaluation.
- All students complete both a practicum and 9 credit hours of internship. There are many different practicum sites available to students on The University of Georgia campus or at neighboring institutions. Students take summer internships in student affairs at colleges and universities across the country (and in some cases, internationally).
- Typically, all students have graduate assistantships in student affairs and related functional areas that provide them with financial support (including tuition waiver) and valuable practical experience.
- The program is full-time and two years in length. Students complete the program as a cohort (approximately 20 students), which becomes a valuable part of the learning experience and an initial professional network.
- The CSAA -M program is designed to meet the Council for the Advancement of Standards in Higher Education (CAS) standards for Master’s Level Student Affairs Professional Preparation Programs.
Building on over 40 years of success, demonstrated by a large and loyal alumni network, the CSAA-M program offers an academically rigorous, theoretically grounded, experientially rich preparation for a career serving students in higher education.
