According to the University of Georgia Gwinnett Campus website, the electronic library accessible on the Gwinnett Campus offers students, faculty, and staff access to the UGA Libraries and collections of other colleges and universities in the University System of Georgia, as well as to the GALILEO suite of databases. Besides being able to access these resources remotely, there are also 10 workstations with computers as well as a reference librarian on-site to assist students in identifying, locating, and retrieving print materials.
Benjamin Hall is the reference librarian at the Gwinnett Campus library. He is available to assist students and faculty alike with all things related to “R & R”—research and resources, that is!
Mr. Hall was nice enough to provide our readers with a list of helpful hints and tips related to conducting research and gathering resources, both on campus or remotely from anywhere in the country! He suggests the following tips for maximum benefit from the resources available:
- Set up your library PIN the first time you check your account online.
- Check your account online in order to find out when your books are available for pick-up and to renew your books online; you can renew books twice online.
- Get the GALILEO password each semester to access UGA’s resources off- campus.
- When conducting a search, leave the “full-text online” box unchecked; we may have access to this material somewhere else via the “find it @ UGA” blue button.
- Use Boolean operators such as AND, OR, and NOT to broaden or narrow your search.
- Use peer-reviewed journal articles to ensure that your sources are credible and of high quality.
- If you find an article that UGA has in print but is not available online, you can use the library’s distance learner’s article delivery request form to have someone scan a copy of the article and email it to you.
- If you’re using Google Scholar, make sure you access Google Scholar through the library website; this will give you greater access to content.
- Use the reference chat feature on the library web page to talk with a live reference librarian.
- Start your research before the last minute!
