Partnership Teachers Selected to Present at Children's Literature Conference
Congratulations to teachers who will be presenting at the Children's Literature Conference April 29-30 at the Georgia Center. One of the original goals of the partnership was increased opportunities for people to share the good work they are doing (in this case in their literacy instruction) with audiences outside the school. If other folks are presenting, let us celebrate you, too!

"The Best Part of Us: Writing Poetry with Photography": Presents an entire, school-wide exploration of poetry with a focus on poetry and photography. We will look at samples of student writing from every grade level. We will address strategies for writing with students on different grade levels, launching a school-wide poetry focus, and celebrating student work. Participants will leave with a poetry unit specific to their grade-level, an anthology of poems to use in the study, and a bibliography of great books of poetry.

"To Find out More, Turn the Page: Reading and Writing Informational Books with Upper-elementary Students": The presentation will include a review of a selection of excellent nonfiction picture books for upper-elementary students. We will examine a model unit of study based on using tradebooks as models for student writing. Samples of student crafted, non-fiction books will be shared. Participants will receive a bibliography, mini-lessons and time-lines for the unit of study, check lists and rubrics for evaluation, and a bibliography of fabulous books.
