About the universities Application and funding Our team

The focus of this project is the undergraduate student exchange. Our project intends to exchange a total of 32 students in 2005. Substantial funding is available for students who are selected to participate and will cover most, if not all, of your program costs. If eight candidates from each institution are not selected in the Fall of 2005, we will promote another exchange Spring 2006.

Students from UGA will be exchange with students from UFC in the northeastern state of Ceará, while students from USU will travel to UNESP in the state of São Paulo. You will leave to Brazil in July and spend the month adjusting to the country and culture while taking an intensive Portuguese language program to help you improve your language skills. Here you will also have a chance to meet the students from UFC going to UGA, or the students from UNESP going to USU.

During the Fall semester (August-December) of 2005 you will be at the Brazilian university taking courses and working on valuable projects. You won't travel alone! Another 7 students (for a total of 8) and a professor from your home institution will travel with you to Brazil. So even though you will interact greatly with students and professors from Brazil, your dependence on the Portuguese language in the classroom will be diminished a bit. We know a course in Portuguese will not be like learning in English, even if you're well prepared!

As you can see, 8 students from each of the four universities will be exchanged at the same time. You will regularly meet these other students in an online environment to debate issues, share ideas, and participate in seminars.

You will return to the USA in the beginning of December.
