Mike Ferrara is Professor in Kinesiology and Program Director of Athletic Training at University of Georgia. He received his doctorate degree from Penn State University, Masters degree from Michigan State University and undergraduate degree from Ithaca College in New York. Mike has been very active in research and has published in leading sports medicine journals. He is also served as President of the World Federation of Athletic Training and Therapy from 2000-2005. Mike is recognized for his international expertise and leadership in athletic training. He has given numerous lectures around the world to include Japan, China, and Europe. Mike was Director of Medical Operations for the 1996 Atlanta Paralympic Games and served as medical coordinator the US medical team for the 1994 World Athletic Championships and the 1992 Barcelona Paralympic Games. He also was the athletic trainer for the 1990 World Games, 1987 Pan American Games, 1985 Olympic Festival, 1983 World University Games an the 1982 National Sports Festival. Mike was recognized as the National Athletic Trainers’ Association Most Distinguished Athletic Trainer in 2003 and as the Outstanding Athletic Training Educator in 2001.

Cathy Brown joined the athletic training faculty at UGA in August of 2006 as an assistant professor after finishing both her PhD (2006) and MA (2002) at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Cathy acts as clinical coordinator for the athletic training education program and currently teaches the Lower Extremity Evaluation, Introduction to Athletic Training, and Clinical Practicum courses, among others. She has been a Certified Athletic Trainer (ATC) since 2000. Cathy is also a Clinical Instructor Educator and an American Heart CPR Instructor and is licensed by the Georgia Board of Athletic Trainers. Cathy completed her BA in 2000 at Willamette University in Salem, Oregon, majoring in Exercise Science. Her research interests include the biomechanics of lower extremity sports injuries, particularly chronic ankle instability, with a secondary interest in sports-related concussion. She is pursuing this research agenda as co-director of the Biomechanics Laboratory.

Michael Huang, PED, ATC

Michael Huang is Professor in Athletic Training and Health and Director of the Graduate Institute of Coaching Science at the National College of Physical Education and Sports in Taiwan.  He received his first master degree in athletic administration from Springfield College in Massachusetts and second master degree and doctoral degree from Indiana University in athletic training.  A native of Taiwan, Mike has been very active in promoting international understanding and education in athletic training.  He had served on the international committee of NATA and WFATT for over ten years and has given numerous lectures around the world to include China, USA, Japan, and Korea.  Before return to Taiwan, Mike was a full time athletic trainer at Indiana University for two years and graduate athletic training program director at San Jose State University.  Mike not only showed his clinical talent in practical setting serving athletic trainers on numerous Taiwan’s Olympic, Asian Games, World University Games delegations, but also demonstrated his administrative skills on serving the Deputy Minister of Sports in Taiwan. 

 

Jake Resch, MA., ATC

Jake Resch was born and raised in Spirit Lake, Iowa. He attended South Dakota State University in Brookings, SD where he completed a bachelor of science in both Athletic Training and Health Promotions with a minor in Health Science. During the completion of his second degree Jake worked abroad in London, England at Central YMCA as a fitness coordinator. Upon returning to the United States he completed his Master of Science in Exercise and Sport Science while becoming an active member of the World Federation of Athletic Training and Therapy as web designer. Currently, Jake is pursuing his PhD in kinesiology with a major in measurement. Jake’s research interests include the pathophysiology of concussion, exertional heat illness and various topics in Athletic Training and Exercise Physiology.
