University of Georgia Autism Spectrum Disorders Research and Training Consortium

Mission and Vision Statement

The College of Education’s Autism Spectrum Disorders Research and Training Consortium (ASD-RTC) is comprised of a collaborative team of professionals and graduate students from various disciplines who are dedicated to improving the lives of individuals and families affected by ASD through increasing public awareness, facilitating social acceptance, and improving long-term functional outcomes for individuals and families.

We aim to improve the lives of individuals and families affected by ASD through teaching and preparing professionals to intervene effectively with individuals with ASD, producing high-quality research to address practical problems encountered by individuals with ASD, and serving individuals and families affected by ASD.

Guiding Principles

The ASD-RTC is built on several guiding principles:

1. The consortium adopts a multi-disciplinary approach to research and training (special education; psychology; speech; instructional technology; medicine).

2. The consortium values partnership with school systems, local community sponsors, health care providers, and other universities with interests in autism spectrum disorders.

3. The consortium believes involvement of parents, families, and individuals with ASD is essential for ASD-RTC activities.

4. The consortium values supporting research and training activities through grant funding.
