Purpose and Description
The Russell H. Yeany, Jr., Research Award was established in 1998 to recognize outstanding research and was made possible by a gift from Russell H. Yeany, Jr., dean emeritus of the College, whose intent was to recognize faculty members' outstanding cumulative research. The recipient of the award receives a plaque, a one-time cash award of $1,000*, and a $2,000 grant for professional development. The recipient of the award will be announced at the College's Spring Celebration.
*Cash awards are subject to tax.

Nominations
- With the approval of the candidate, nominations may be initiated by a department or any group of three or more faculty members.
- Eleven copies of the nomination package, including documentation, are due in the Office of the Associate Dean for Research and External Affairs (G-10 Aderhold Hall) by January 17 each year. Should this date fall on a weekend or holiday, nominations should be submitted the next working day.
Method of Selection

- The documentation provides clear evidence of outstanding contributions that have attained widespread national or international impact and visibility.
- The nominee has demonstrated scholarly leadership with respect to his or her peers and applicable research or creative community.
Guidelines for Preparing Nominations
All nominations must be prepared according to the guidelines presented below. Since members serving on the award committee may not be experts in the nominee's field, it is important that nominations be submitted in language understandable to faculty in other areas and disciplines.
The nomination packet should contain the following:
- A one-page letter of nomination to be written and signed by one or more nominators that summarizes the nominee's qualifications for the award.
- A description (not to exceed three single-spaced typed pages) of research or creative activity upon which the nomination is based.
- Documentation showing the recognition the nominee's research or creative activity has received and the impact it has made on the field. This includes reviews, citations, external funding, previous awards, etc. The documentation portion of the nomination should be no more than two pages and only cite recognitions made within the previous three years.
- Three letters in support of the nomination from peers outside the University community.
- The nominee's current curriculum vitae.
