Alternative Certification

There are two routes at UGA to a career in teaching for individuals from various educational backgrounds that want to become teachers:

Alternative Certification Programs
Alternative teacher certification programs in the College of Education at UGA are designed for individuals with undergraduate degrees who want earn professional teacher certification to teach in the public school setting. The programs have courses and field-based experiences that are of the same quality demanded by the traditional University of Georgia teacher preparation programs.

Program Length
Most programs are two-year programs that include the courses needed for both a master's degree and initial certification. A few programs offer the option of certification only, which, depending on a student's educational background and flexibility can last around one year.

Mid-career Professionals with at least one higher education degree who meet UGA Graduate Schools Admissions Requirements
