Postsecondary Technical Education

Research to Improve the Quality of Postsecondary Technical Education in Georgia: Collaborative Projects of UGA and DTAE (2002- 2003)

This continuation of collaborative projects with the Georgia Department of Technical and Adult Education (DTAE) provided research focused on critical issues in Georgia postsecondary education. The five project components were: 1) student services professional development, 2) evaluation of technical education improvement and innovation projects, 3) professional development needs of part-time faculty in Georgia technical colleges, 4) key attributes of Georgia technical college work ethic instruction, and 5) maintaining organizational competitiveness through field-initiated studies.

Using Research to Improve the Quality of Postsecondary Technical Education in Georgia: A Continuing Collaborative Project at UGA and DTAE (2001 - 2002)

This continuation of collaborative projects with the Georgia Department of Technical and Adult Education (DTAE) provided research focused on critical issues in Georgia postsecondary education. The five project components were: 1) student services staff development/leadership training, 2) regional collaborative processes for workforce education in Georgia, 3) faculty professional development needs in Georgia technical colleges, 4) elements for success in postsecondary Tech Prep programs, and, 5) business and industry trends in Georgia.

A Research and Development Project Focusing on Four Critical Issues: Student Development Services, Technical Education Program Development, Workforce Education, and Job Placement for Selected Populations (2000 - 2001)


The collaborative project with the Georgia Department of Technical and Adult Education (DTAE) focused on critical issues in Georgia postsecondary education. The four project components addressed 1) student services and staff development; 2) trends, models, and new approaches in technical education program development; 3) status of workforce education as a Georgia statewide system; and 4) job placement of selected populations related to length of program and area of study. The goal of the project was to use research based findings, best practices, vision, and the wisdom of practitioners and practice to inform decision making within the DTAE and technical colleges to improve programs and personnel.

A Proposal to Research, Develop, and Revise Program Standards and Program Guides and to Provide Related Activities in Support of the Mission of the Georgia Department of Technical and Adult Education (1993-1998)

This project included the comprehensive review and revision of 35 standardized degree/diploma programs, in-service activities support, information management, and research support activities for DTAE and the technical institutes.
